HUDE HOLDS COURT AS OPs RAISE A GLASS
Armadale Cellars operator Phillip Hude (1982), has played bon vivant to a gathering of fellow Old Paradians and their partners at an historic wine-tasting event convened by the Association.
As frontman for the OPA’s very first “Class With Glass” affair, Phil regaled a plethora of wine-making tales to members of his captive audience, as they savoured glorious selections of Australian reds and whites put up by “The Hudester” himself.
Guests, some of whom were Phil’s old schoolmates of the 1982 year, were treated to delicious glasses of riesling, chardonnay and pinot from locales including the Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills and Macedon Ranges. The wines were quaffed between courses of mouth-watering canapes supplied by waitresses of the V-Zug Kitchen Showroom in leafy East Kew.
Those in attendance were also able to take advantage of Armadale Cellars’ wine offers on the night.
Old Paradians’ Association Committeeman Paul Evans (1986), who was chiefly involved in the planning of “Class with Glass”, anticipated that the function would become a permanent fixture on the association’s social events calendar.
“This was a great night and a real credit to both Phil Hude and Michelle Edwards at V-Zug,” Paul said.
“I am sure the ‘Class with Glass’ event at that venue is something we can build upon for next year.”
Angelo Mazzone, who rounded up a number of old friends of Parade’s class of 1982 to support Phil, said simply: “It was a damned good night – there was certainly cause to do it again, perhaps more often”.
Vanessa Jones, who attended “Glass with Class” with her husband David, gave the event the thumbs-up.
“I very much enjoyed the evening,” Vanessa said. The venue was good, as was the wine and food, and Phil was very entertaining and a wealth of information.
“For me not originally being from Australia, to see David with his old friends from school was terrific.
“Overall it was a lovely night which I thoroughly enjoyed.”
On behalf of the President Lewis Derrico and committeemen Phil Carter, Paul Evans, Angelo Mazzone, John Nicholls and Paul Shannon, the Old Paradians’ Association wishes to thank Armadale Cellars’ Phil Hude for his knowledge and creativity, and V-Zug Kitchen Showroom Manager Michelle Edwards for her valued assistance, and to the following group of Old Paradians and their partners who supported the Association with their attendance at the inaugural “Class with Glass”;
John Abrahams (1982), Daniel Aicher (1989), Michael Aicher, Greg Cain (1973), Brian Chappel (1960), Daniel Derrico, David Jones (1982), Vanessa Jones, Angela Kennedy, James Keogh (1965), Anton Koren (1982), Angelo Mazzone (1982), Peter Mount (1986), Ivan Stocco (1982) and Mark Treppo (1982).
