MR JUSTICE SIR NORMAN O’BRYAN

1894 - 1968

A Dux of Parade College in 1910, Sir Norman O'Bryan was admitted to the Bar in 1916, two months after enlisting in the AIF.

Sir Norman served in France from April 1918 with the 3rd Army Brigade, Australian Field Artillery. He was promoted lieutenant in June, but wounded in September, and after spending some months in chambers at the Middle Temple, London, returned to Melbourne where his AIF appointment terminated on Christmas Day 1919.

From 1920-’38 Sir Norman practiced at the Victorian Bar. He also officiated as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Melbourne.

In 1937 Sir Norman became a KC and also Chairman of St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was appointed Judge and knighted in 1958.
