PROFESSOR DAVID KISSANE AC

1950 -

Professor David Kissane was the Parade College Captain through the Bundoora campus’ historic opening year of 1968. After his Matriculation, David entered the University of Melbourne to study Medicine. This was the beginning of an outstanding academic career.

David is an outstanding Old Paradian. He is an academic psychiatrist, psycho-oncology researcher and author.

David is Chair of Palliative Medicine Research at the University of Notre Dame Australia, and the Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care Research, St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. Additionally, he is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Monash University, Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College and Consultant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

David is internationally recognised for his research in his field. He was honoured with the award Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in the General Division within the Australian honours system with the citation, “For eminent service to psychiatry, particularly psycho-oncology and palliative medicine, as an educator, researcher, author and clinician, and through executive roles with a range of national and international professional medical bodies.”
