In October 1936, following a suggestion from Brother T. B. Garvey, who recognised the importance of maintaining strong connections between past students and the College, the Old Paradians’ Association held its inaugural monthly luncheon in Melbourne.

The luncheon was held at Buckley & Nunn’s Dining Room in Bourke Street, Melbourne, the site now occupied by David Jones. The guest speaker was Mr C. M. S. Power, a former President of the Association and President of the Australian Aero Club. Approximately 70 Old Paradians attended the inaugural gathering, with Mr Jim Gorman presiding over proceedings.

Ninety years later, the Old Paradians’ monthly luncheon remains a much-loved and enduring fixture on the OPA Events Calendar. Over the decades, the luncheon has been hosted at a number of venues across Melbourne, with the RACV Club becoming its long-standing home in more recent years.

On 11 November 2026, the OPA will proudly celebrate the 90th anniversary of the monthly luncheon tradition at the RACV Club. This remarkable milestone is a wonderful testament to the enduring bonds of friendship, fellowship and connection that exist among Old Paradians.
