PARADE COLLEGE

On Friday, 23 October, the Old Paradians’ Association hosted its annual Hall of Fame Dinner at the Novotel Melbourne Preston, welcoming 120 members of the Parade College community for a memorable evening of celebration and recognition. With past Hall of Fame inductees, Br Peter Dowling (2025), David Jones (2023), Peter McKenna (2022) Terry Moran (2021) and Peter Bedford (2020), as well as Old Paradians representing graduating decades from the 1940s onwards, the event brought together generations of the College community to honour two outstanding individuals whose achievements have made a significant impact beyond their time at Parade.

Daniel Harford (1994) performed an outstanding role as Master of Ceremonies, warmly welcoming guests and guiding proceedings throughout the evening.

This year’s Hall of Fame inductees were Bill Gibbins AM (1963) and Joe Montemurro (1987), both recognised for their exceptional achievements and inspiring contributions to their respective fields.

Terry Henderson (1966) delivered a heartfelt tribute to Bill Gibbins, who passed away in 2025. He reflected on Bill’s passion, vision and determination, which left an enduring legacy in Australian racing and the wider community. Terry also shared personal stories that highlighted Bill’s values-driven approach to philanthropy and his commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Joe Montemurro’s induction was celebrated through an engaging question-and-answer session with Daniel Harford. Guests gained an insight into Joe’s remarkable journey as both a player and coach, which has taken him to the highest levels of international football. Joe is currently the head coach of the Australian women’s national football team, the CommBank Matildas, and his achievements continue to inspire aspiring players and coaches.

As part of the evening’s traditions, the Association was delighted to present the Tenete Award to Angelo Mazzone (1982) in recognition of his outstanding service and contribution in the interests of Parade College. OPA Committee member and Honorary Old Paradian John Nicholls who presented the award to Angelo, spoke about the the Tenete Award being one of the Association’s highest honours, acknowledging individuals whose dedication and service have made a lasting contribution to the College community.

A particularly special moment of the evening was the presentation of an Honorary Old Paradian Award to Leanne Thomas. OPA President, Michael Donato (2017) spoke wonderfully about Leanne’s history with the school and her significant contribution and passion in teaching and supporting young men with their studies. Leanne’s brother, Paul, and his wife, Marg, attended the dinner to accept the award on her behalf, making it a meaningful occasion for her family and the wider Parade community.

A special mention must be made of Parade College Year 12 student leaders, Savi Sooriyage, Neth Malimbadage and Orlu Hadley-Searle, who provided outstanding assistance throughout the evening and proudly led the group in a stirring rendition of “Old Bluestone Pile” and ‘The Yarangabee’, the College’s much-loved anthems.

Finally, the Old Paradians’ Association would like to sincerely thank the generous sponsors whose support helped make the evening possible.

Our Premier Sponsor, Qube Logistics, and Gold Sponsors, Total Tools, Melbourne Chain Wire Fencing and OTI Racing and Bloodstock, are gratefully acknowledged, along with our Silver Sponsors, Statewide Metals, Miles Real Estate and Striking Constructions.

We also extend our thanks to Exposure Digital Print and Displays for their assistance with the printing of the evening’s commemorative booklet.

The 2026 Hall of Fame Dinner was a wonderful celebration of achievement, service and the enduring connections that unite the Parade College community across generations. We look forward to welcoming the community back for the next Annual Hall of Fame Dinner in October 2027.
