PARADE COLLEGE

It was another wonderful afternoon at the Old Paradians’ Association RACV Luncheon.

Our guest speaker for June was past student and former teacher at Parade College, Paul Fahey (1983), who currently serves as Executive Officer of the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC).

After completing his HSC at Parade College in 1983, Paul returned to the College as a teacher and dedicated more than 36 years to educating and mentoring students across both the Alphington and Bundoora Campuses. During his distinguished career at Parade, Paul held numerous leadership positions, including Director of Sport, Lower House Leader, Upper House Leader, VCE Coordinator, and Dean of Learning (Years 10–12), before taking on his current role with the ACC.

Paul reflected on his experiences as a Parade student and educator, and it was particularly pleasing to have several members of the Class of 1983 in attendance to support him. Joining us for the luncheon were Michael Vear, Chris O’Halloran, Peter Caddy, Matthew O’Brien, and Wayne Grogan. Also attending were Paul’s brother, Kevin, and his son, Liam.

Established in 1911, the ACC originally provided competitive sporting opportunities for a small number of Catholic Colleges. Paul provided attendees with a fascinating insight into the organisation’s significant growth and evolution over the years. In particular, he highlighted the introduction and expansion of ACC cultural activities, which now offer students opportunities to compete and collaborate in a wide range of pursuits beyond sport, including chess, culinary competitions, golf, debating, and drama.

Following Paul’s presentation, luncheon MC Pat Mount (1962) outlined several changes to the future format of the RACV monthly luncheons. It was announced that the number of luncheons held each year will be reduced from eleven to eight, with no events scheduled in July, December, January, or February.

Alumni Officer Steve Philp (1986) also addressed attendees, advising that planning is already underway for 2027. While the number of RACV luncheons will be reduced, the Alumni Office is developing a range of new and exciting initiatives and events that will provide additional opportunities for Old Paradians to reconnect and engage with the College community.

Although there will be no luncheon in July, we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday, 12 August. We are delighted to announce that former Australian Test and One-Day International cricketer Adam Dale (1986) will be our guest speaker, sharing stories from his career representing Australia on the international stage.
