The May 2026 Ladies OPA Luncheon was held on 13 May, with more than 50 guests in attendance.
In the absence of Pat Mount, Peter Johnston graciously assumed the role of Master of Ceremonies. During the afternoon, Peter shared the sad news of the recent passing of Peter Lay (1952), John Dargie (1957), Peter Johnston (1973) and Michael Frazer (1954).
The annual OPA RACV Club luncheon is dedicated to celebrating the wonderful women of the Old Paradians community. It was a pleasure to welcome past recipients of the “Woman of Distinction” Award, Janet Donahoo, Barbara Bibby and Patricia Joss, who joined us for this year’s luncheon.
We were also delighted to have representation from current members of the Parade College staff, including Deputy Principal Mary Dourious, Director of Human Resources Doreen Cutajar, Development Manager Jemma Horan, Project Officer Peter Hudson, Preston Campus Director Clint Gifford and Dean of VCE Vocational Major Tegan Hopkins.
Prior to lunch, Dom Dimattina (1954) spoke about a new Australian musical premiering in June called Stella based on the extraordinary life of Stella Miles Franklin. Dom’s daughter, Monique DiMattina wrote the music and Lyrics to the musical and encouraged Old Paradian's to attend.
Following lunch, guests enjoyed an outstanding presentation from members of the Parade College Preston Campus. Clint Gifford provided valuable insight into the campus and the exceptional opportunities available to students, including a video showcase of the College’s impressive facilities.
A particular highlight of the afternoon was hearing from three Year 12 female students from the Preston Campus, who spoke about their experiences attending a traditionally boys’ school. Scarlett Fitzpatrick, Charlotte Catton and Orlu Hadley-Searle delivered inspiring and thoughtful reflections on being among the first female students at Parade College and shared how they have embraced and thrived within the school community.
Special guests for the occasion included the students’ proud parents — Fiona and Philip Catton, Jo Searle, and Shannon and Paul Fitzpatrick — who watched on as their daughters captivated the audience with their personal school journeys.
We look forward to welcoming Paul Fahey (1983) as guest speaker at our June luncheon. Paul currently works with the ACC and is based at the Parade College Bundoora Campus.
