PARADE COLLEGE

The May Ladies OPA Lunch took place on the 14th of May. 55 guests filled the room to see former staff member Terri Crisafi receive an OPA Women of Distinction Award and hear from our guest speaker Des Tobin.

In the absence of Pat Mount, John Nicholls performed the task of Master of Ceremonies. He was able to remember those from the Old Paradians’ community that have passed away in recent times. Keith Stackpole, father of Peter (1981) and Tony (1988), Peter Jackson (1954), Honorary Old Paradian, Robin Mills, a wonderful servant of the College and Old Paradians’ Football Club, father of Nicholas (1986) and Ben (1989) and Adrian Santaguida (1998).

We also remembered Peter Walker (1946) who passed away recently. Many Old Paradian’s would know of Peter’s role as a keen golfer, instrumental in the early days establishing and coordinating our OPA Golf Day. The Peter Walker Trophy was struck in honour of his contribution. Peter was a regular attendee at the OPA RACV lunch having attended twice this year. Peter’s grandfather, Hugh Patrick McAnuff was one of the first students at Parade, attending in the 1870’s. His Uncle Dominic McAnuff also attended the College graduating in 1931.Peter’s brother-in-law Ray Hangan (1951) and two of Peter’s son’s, Anthony and Mark Walker attended the lunch.

Our most recent recipient of the Old Paradians’ Association ‘Woman of Distinction Award’ Terri Crisafi was presented. Terri recently retired from the College after 42 years of outstanding service. A gifted and passionate teacher, a wonderful mentor to her colleagues and to preservice teachers. Terri showed genuine care and concern for staff and student wellbeing and held several leadership roles over her long career at the College. Terri spoke of her time at Parade, her love of teaching and the lifelong friendships she has established at Parade.

Congratulations Terri.

Dom Dimattina (1954) was able to introduce his lifelong friend Des Tobin as guest speaker for the day. After a 43-year professional career in funeral service, his post career has seen him writing biographies and family stories. His latest one, ‘It’s in the Genes Australian Football families’. The book is an ode to the footballing community and a historical look back at great families of the game.

Des gave an engaging presentation firstly speaking of AFL/VFL Old Paradian footballers, among them, Brownlow medallists Peter Bedford and Trent Cotchin.

We look forward to welcoming College Captain 1986 Professor John Tobin as our guest speaker at our June luncheon. John is a Professor in Human Rights Law, Associate Dean (Diversity and Inclusion) and Director of Studies, Human Rights Law at the University of Melbourne.
